The Council debate in Bath over transport policy was a clash of vision and strategies on the 20th of January. The Conservatives are locked into road building solutions for commuters whilst the Liberal Democrats are campaigning for solutions based on public transport, cycling and walking. The Conservatives want to build large Park and Rides in flood plains and a 1.2m two lane super bus highway to allow commuters to save an average of 90 seconds commuting time.

All of this at huge cost to the taxpayer and to the environment let alone the havoc it will wreak on residents.

The Liberal Democrats have for two years now been proposing alternative solutions based on better use of the existing road infrasturucture and prioritising bus use with better stops and information.

So on the night the Conservatives adopted a policy that suits the needs of car drivers commuting into Bath and does nothing for the people of Bath.  There policy does nothing to build up rail options and does very little for cyclists and pedestrians.

All those millions of pounds being wasted on concrete when we could have done so much more around Bath to improve the situation for everyone.
